Problematic Fave Tag

Once upon a time, a long time ago, in May of 2016, I was chosen to do a tag by the wonderful Izzi over at Ravenclaw Book Club! Izzi created this one & I am finally getting around to doing it!!

I’m sorry it took so long.

1) A character everyone loves that you hate

First person that pops into my head is actually 2 people: Lotto & Mathilde from Fates & Furies by Lauren Groff. I hate them, & this book, & EVERYTHING IS AWFUL OH MY GODS

*ahem*
Moving on

2) A character everyone hates that you love

Oh gods, I don’t even know the answer to this question. I seriously can’t think of anyone? I might have to stick with Izzi on this one & go with Bella Swan from Twilight. She’s a total introvert & I relate so much. People say it’s not realistic that she wouldn’t know she’s pretty or that she’d think she’s plain when all these guys fawn over her. Guys, if people fawned over me it would go right over my head & I’d STILL think I wasn’t all that good-looking. Hell, I’m amazed I’m married & he seems to like me, so…
It is DEFINITELY possible!!

Don’t worry Bella, I got you, girl.

3) A character who started out problematic but grew to be a better person

Only one character comes to mind & that is Peter from the Divergent series.

I really feel like he redeems himself in the end, despite being a total jerk throughout the majority of the series. Can’t help but like him, to be honest.

4) A character who started out good but became problematic

Can I pick Sebastian from the Mortal Instruments? Cause when you meet him he’s all cool & sweet but then HE’S ALL BAD BAD BAD!!! This might not be the best answer for this particular category but…..it’s really all I can think of.

5) A problematic couple that you ship (doesn’t have to be canon)

Y’all, it’s Maven & Mare from Red Queen.
And nobody can convince me otherwise!

6) A couple everyone ships that you find problematic (doesn’t have to be canon)

Imma take you back in time to 2008. Right before the final book in Twilight was to be released. And how everyone was on the Team Jacob train.

It’s not a problematic ship in the way that it’s bad or that there’s something wrong but in that IT NEVER MADE ANY DAMN SENSE. And by that I mean, Bella was CLEARLY being written to stay with Edward & just because Jacob & her were amazing friends does NOT mean that she would ever choose him. Sorry, y’all. But it was never meant to be. So stop it!!

7) A problematic trope that you love

Oh man, when the villain is in love with the main character, tbh. Usually they’re evil, & gross, & obsessive, & awful, BUT I LOVE IT FOR SOME REASON. It always reads as weird & creepy & those are the things I live for.

I am a horrible person.

8) A book/tv show/movie that is problematic but you love anyway

I…..don’t know, guys. I am honestly blanking here. I am absolutely sure that I have a favourite thing that is kind of awful but I still love….but I can’t think of what it is!

So let’s pretend I gave a great answer & move on!

9) A book/tv show/movie that you hate because it’s problematic

50 Shades of Bullshit

NEXT!!!

10) Lastly, your problematic fave

I really don’t wanna spoil ANYTHING, so while trying to be as vague as possible:

Maven from Red Queen

Oh! And Kavinsky from The Dream Thieves

I love those boys, even though I really really shouldn’t.

And there you have it!!!
A post about faves & problems & all that good stuff!

I hope you enjoyed it, I know I did!!
Even though it took me forever to get to & sometimes I had a hard time thinking of answers.
You guys should do this one!!
I’m not great at picking people to tag so….
if you’re reading this…

DO IT
