I HAVE FINALLY KILLED THE READING SLUMP THAT HAS PLAGUED ME FOR MONTHS. And I did it in a fantastic way. I read 11 books last month!
Yes, you read that correctly. ELEVEN. BOOKS.
Granted, a couple were audiobooks & four were poetry collections that didn’t take long tear through, but STILL!!
So here we go, the run-down of the books that helped me break out of the most immense slump in my life. Complete with a one sentence mini review & star rating.
(Click on the title of each to go to its GoodReads page!!)
Thank you, books. I have missed you so fucking much.
- Gemina by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
5/5 Stars ~ Damn it AIDAN
- Obsidio by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
5/5 Stars ~ DAMN IT AIDAN
- I’ll Be Gone in the Dark by Michelle McNamara
Originally 3.5/5 Stars but recently upped to 4/5 because I am 10000000% sure that this book, her work, helped catch the Golden State Killer (suspected, though 100% DNA match) on April 25th of this year.
You did it, Michelle. You all fucking did it.
- the princess saves herself in this one by Amanda Lovelace
3.5/5 Stars ~ So that was an emotional roller coaster.
- the witch doesn’t burn in this one by Amanda Lovelace
4/5 Stars ~ Let’s burn the mother fucking patriarchy DOWN my friends!
- Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur
2.5/5 Stars ~ Not the collection for me, but definitely not bad!
- The Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur
3.5/5 Stars ~ I think her style is growing on me so I’ll probably pick up her next collection.
Books Finished in April (not started)
- The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin
3/5 Stars ~ An amazingly written fantasy novel that, unfortunately, left me more than a little confused so I’m not sure if I’ll continue the series or not.
- My Sweet Audrina by V. C. Andrews
2/5 Stars ~ AKA the book that did NOT age well at ALL & I still can’t believe I even finished.
Books Fully Read in April
- Simon Vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli
4/5 Stars ~ Could this book be ANY CUTER
- The Empress by S. J. Kincaid
4/5 Stars ~ I will punch EVERYONE in the face for all the shit they put my Nemesis through.
Finally! The slump has been killed & I am free from its oppressive force!
I have been so stressed out about it, I wasn’t sure I’d ever read properly again.
I don’t expect to do the same during May, but let’s hope I don’t go into book burnout again.
My little bookish heart can’t take it!
