The Book Scavenger Hunt Tag

So, about 2 months ago (omg, REALLY???) I was tagged by the wonderful Never Trust A Book Nerd. I am oh so sorry it took me so long to get this post up. I actually did the hunt in my shelves the day after I was tagged (pictures & all!) but never wrote the post for it. MY BAD!!!

I’m awful at keeping up with tags. There are just so many!

But we’re going to cross at least one off the list

~RIGHT NOW!~

Find a book with the letter Z in its title/author’s name

I went ahead & picked Married with Zombies (Living with the Dead series) by Jesse Petersen. These are some of the funniest zombie books I have ever read. I love the characters, & I love the overall writing style. It’s great. Highly recommended!!

Find me a classic!

20160419_010527Easy peasy!! Here’s one of my favourite classic novels. Fahrenheit 451 is SO GOOD. And I will keep this book for all eternity. It will survive every over-stocked purge I could possibly go through. I adore Ray Bradbury’s writing. I especially find it funny that, for someone who obviously HATES technology, he writes a ton of (what most people consider) scifi.

Also, everyone gets what this book is about, wrong. It’s NOT about censorship (though I can definitely see why people would think it is). It’s about the death of the novel & the dumbing down of people through television. How television is destroying the interest in reading. He…really hates television, y’all. Technology is not his thing. He also wrote The Veldt, which is obviously about how technology controls our lives (or at least, that’s how I took it. Also could be just about our obsession with the machine. Either way…). Also a ridiculously good story. Very creepy, too.

Here’s a nice article/interview about the whole misinterpretation of his most famous work. Definitely worth a read for great insight!!

20160419_010500Find me the oldest book on your shelves

Oldest in every possible meaning of the word.

Dante Alighieri’s The Inferno

This paperback was published in 1982, translated from the original Italian by John Ciardi, & I got it from my parents. Or, more like, I took it from my parents to read & have yet to return it.

Sorry mom!!! Can I just….keep this? (say yes)

The actual story itself was written by Dante ALL THE WAY BACK in the 14th Century.
So, yea, it’s pretty old.

Can y’all beat that?? ;D

Find a book with a key on its cover

THIS ONE WAS SO MUCH HARDER THAN YOU’D THINK IT WOULD BE!!!

I combed through ALL of my books (of which there are over 100 physically) & I only found 2. But I guess I’m lucky, cause many people didn’t even find one. But I did it! And this was the one I decided to showcase here, cause I bought it recently & I really like how simple, yet perfect for the book itself, it is.

And that book is:
Twisted River by Siobhan MacDonald

This book is a psychological thriller & it sounds AWESOME!
Can’t wait to read it.

Find something on your shelves that ISN’T a book

This one was also pretty easy since I like collecting cute little things & merch from my favourite franchises. I have a lot of little things displayed on many of my shelves that aren’t books. But this one is my favourite. It isn’t displayed out of the cool case it came in just yet, but that’s because I want to wait until we’re more settled in a home before I really get into super displaying my things.

In November of 2015 I bought the XBox One Pip Boy edition of Fallout 4! And now, I proudly display the kick ass case it came in (complete with PipBoy inside) on my main book shelf. It also currently doubles as a book end. Actually, that whole half of my shelf is just Fallout stuff. The Art of Fallout 4, Vault Tec Survival guide, and empty bottle of Nuka Cola Quantum that Target released for, like, a quick second… It’s one of my favourite shelves. Obviously.

Find a book with an animal on its cover

Let’s go with:
20160419_010702
I don’t want to pick just one, cause there are so many. So here are two of my favourite kitty covers! I love the Warriors series & Homer’s Odyssey is so fucking beautiful. He really was a blind Wonder Cat.
We miss you, Homer.

And you guys should pick both of these up. I don’t even care what your preferences are!!

DO IT

Find a book with a girl on the cover

20160419_010333.jpgI own a TON of YA so this is technically the easiest AND hardest to complete. I can find them, BUT WHICH DO YOU PICK???

The cutest, obviously.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland & Other Stories by Lewis Carroll

The wonderful Barnes & Noble hardcover edition.

I mean, I’m pretty sure I didn’t have much of a choice with this one. Not really.

Find a Non-YA Book

20160419_010613.jpgI own a lot of horror novels, most of which aren’t in the teen genre, so another not-too-difficult one for me. I also like comics, so I had a ton of those to choose from as well.

For this I decided to go with The Killer Book of Serial Killers!

Because I want you guys to know that, under this sweet, silly, persona is a darkness that is only satiated by reading & watching way too many things about serial killers.

Also because I had been wanting this book for a very long time & when I initially hunted my house for this tag, I had just purchased it & so I really wanted to use it somewhere. So here we are!

Seriously though, I always found the topic very interesting & have done a lot of reading & watched a lot of shows & documentaries about serial killers. I have zero guilt about this pleasure of mine. Though maybe I should?

Find a book with stars on its cover

20160419_010437Very few books of mine with stars on the cover.

I wanted to pick one that I haven’t seen around online like, ever. But also because I absolutely love this book.

Give me anything about folk tales, scary stories, & superstitions, & I’ll be completely in love with you. And that’s a fact. I mean, my husband took me to Salem Massachusetts last year. You think I’m ever gonna leave him? Not after that! Not a chance.

Also the cover is just cute. Pink. Birds, goats, a big black cat in the middle. Little stars EVERYWHERE!!

Love it!

Find a book with golden letters

20160419_010414.jpgThe only one I really have in my collection that meets this criteria is a Barnes & Noble leather edition:
Complete Tales & Poems of Edgar A. Poe.

My grandmother gave this to me years ago as a gift, along with a copy for herself, & it’s one of my favourites. Not only because I adore Poe, but because of who gave it to me.

My grandmother actually passed away last year & it’s left a gaping hole in my heart. So this book means the absolute world to me. It’s one of the few things I have that will forever connect me to her (besides, ya know, bloodline) & I will never let this one go.

It is one of the greatest, most heartfelt gifts I have ever received. I just wish she was still here to enjoy it with me again.

And there you have it!!

Now, I’m supposed to tag people here to do this one themselves, but I don’t really feel comfortable doing that only because it’s been so long. I don’t know who’s already done it, who hasn’t, or anything.

SO!

If this looks like something you’d want to do, I TAG YOU!

Go ahead & hunt them shelves! And don’t forget to let me know what you find!

  1. That edition of Alice in Wonderland is so beautiful 😍 I also love the Poe collection and the story behind it 💜

Black Cats & Evil Eyes looks so interesting! I love things like that so much. I want to visit Salem, so bad! I’m pretty sure I have a similar version of that serial killer book 😂 I actually have an entire shelf dedicated to true crime books. I have such a fascination with it and I’m always reading and watching things about it.

  2. I have never heard someone talk about the Warriors series! I loved those when I was younger (and own them all). In fact I might have to reread those now that I think of them.

    1. I got so excited about Warriors that I didn’t even make it all the way down without commenting about it (my bad😅) I have a complete works of Poe too, but my copy isn’t nearly as beautiful as yours

    2. I missed out on these when I was a kad, but found them as an adult & my husband got me the hardcover ultimate guide as a Christmas present. They’re just as amazing now as they ever could be!! I am….ridiculously behind though. And there’s a new addition to the series I saw at the store last week!!! So many books. So many cats!!!!! ♡♡♡

      1. I only read the original series none of the spin offs or the bear series she did, but I’m thinking about starting those too

  3. This tag looks really fun! I hope your shelves didn’t take to much of a beating. Maybe it’s just me but when I do tags like this my bookshelves get even more messier because I never put things away properly!

I haven’t read the Infernal or Fahrenheit 451 YET (I know, I know, I’m a horrible person! but I always forget about them when I’m buying books 😦 )

I’m going to give this one a go! I can’t wait to see what I find. I’m trying to think of all my books and if any of them have a key on the front cover now! I already know ALOT of them have girls and faces XD

    1. I can’t wait to see what you find!! I know that MOST of the books I took out got put back. But there is definitely a stack of about 4 that…did not….and is currently residing in front of other books, in a little stack, on a random shelf. But at least it’s off the floor!!

We’re moving in a couple months anyway so…who cares!! Hahaaa 😀

      1. Oh I hope your move goes well! I moved into my house at the start of the year but we’re renovating so most of my books are still in boxes! I have set up a temporary bookshelf but everything’s everywhere.

      1. I’ve heard a lot of amazing things about it but never got around to reading it. Thanks for the recommendation! Great post, by the way. Looks like a fun tag, hope it didn’t mess up your shelves too much haha
